Panaitan
Island lies off the western tip of Java in the Sunda Strait, the sea
that links Java and Sumatra. As part of the World Heritage-listed Ujung
Kulon National Park, Panaitan Island is as abundant in wildlife as it is
in the rolling waves that surround its reefs. The view from the boat
moored in Panaitan Bay is a surfer’s dream: peeling waves break against
backdrops of luscious, unspoiled jungle. Local monkeys and deer dot the
beach. Panaitan is one of the emerging surfing locations in the
wave-rich Indonesian archipelago. Most famous for its relentless,
heaving tubes known as Apocalypse and One Palm, the island also boasts a
wide range of options to cater to all levels of surfers.

Trip report
To
day, we woke up with a lots beautiful singing of bird than
directly to Panaitan and right in front of our boat was a great decent
sized wave. We surfed there for a couple of hours then headed around the
bay-side of the island. With a turn of luck, Napalms (surf spot) was
cranking!! We surfed all day and got many memorable waves, the best i
have ever seen and surfed!! The following day was the same and the boys
were very happy.
After
a day’s surfing, the boat’s deck is the perfect place to pull up a
chair and sip a cold beer as the sun sets gently over the sea. The
boat’s Local owner and captain, Ancu, has been touring the region for
more than 20 years. As an experienced surfer himself, he’s understanding
of the island and its surf breaks ensure that his guests experience the
best surfing conditions
We
enjoyed good food and many beers which we had all been dreaming of for
so many days. We all thought the trip was not just a surf trip but a
mental test that stretched us all to our limits. Its good to be back in
civilisation!! All the boys are keen to do another trip soon, but next
time we will be a lot better prepared! As our journey comes to an end
and we make our way back to Jakarta, the island paradise seems like a
distant memory. It’s hard to believe Panaitan Island remains so
untouched when we consider just how close we are to Jakarta.!
